Chutubili, Yaakov (Yasha)

Chutubili, Yaakov (Yasha)

Son of Tamar and Moshe, he was born on December 17, 1962, in Kolasi, Georgia. When he was nine years old they immigrated to Israel. After completing his 10th grade in Ashdod, Yaakov worked as a dockworker in the port of Ashdod, and his friends say that he was a quiet, smiling young man, a lover of reggae music. Yaakov spent a year and ten months in the Golani Brigade, but at home he did not say anything about the war in order to prevent concern from his parents. Shortly before his fall, he received a week’s leave, in recognition of his excellence in the battles in Lebanon. According to his commander, he was “an outstanding soldier and a promising commander, with a pleasant temperament and excellent relations.” Yaakov fell in the Peace for Galilee war near Beirut, from a direct hit on the armored vehicle he was sitting on, on 15 Av, August 4, 1982. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Ashdod. He was 20 years old. He left behind parents and four brothers and sisters.
