Chugi, Meir

Son of Menashe and Rachel. Born in 1950 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The family immigrated to Israel in 1951. He was a student at the “Alumim” elementary school in Rehovot, and was a member of the youth home in his neighborhood. Since he was the eldest son of his family, he wanted to learn a profession, so that he could help support his family. He was drafted into the IDF in November 1967. He was still in compulsory service when he died, on the 20th of Tishrei, October 12, 1968, while serving on the Tel Aviv-Ashkelon highway. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rehovot. The commander of his unit wrote, in a letter of condolences to his family, ” as a soldier who could always be relied upon, and carried out properly.”
