Chovan, Zvi (Hersch, Mendel)


Son of Reuven and Malka. Born on October 23, 1948 in Hadera, his parents immigrated to Israel on an illegal ship during the War of Independence and served in the IDF. Zvi completed his studies at the Shalva Elementary School in Haifa and then continued at Beit HaKakid. He belonged to the Hapoel movement because he was very fond of sports. He studied mechanical frameworks and a year before his enlistment helped his father in his work. He was drafted into the IDF in November 1966, and in the middle of his regular service as a cadet, the Six-Day War broke out. Zvi participated in the conquest of the city of Shechem and Tahura and showed exemplary willingness and behavior. Later, in a battle that took place at the Raviya outposts on the fifth day of the battles, he fell on the 9th of June 1967. He was buried in the military cemetery in Haifa.
