Chomri, Asher (Oshik)

Son of Mazal and Yefet was born on December 1, 1965, in Hadera. Along with his studies, Asher spent time playing football. He was a player in the Maccabi Hadera team and stood out for his seriousness and ability. He was also called to play for the Maccabi Israel team of his peers. At the school he excelled in his studies, so he was sent to a high school in a boarding school for gifted children in Kfar Sava. There, too, he became fond of students and teachers, because of his talents and personality. Asher was the youngest son of his parents, and was born after four daughters. Despite his special status in the family, he was modest and behaved as an equal among equals. He had a good disposition, calm, relaxed, and straight-eyed. He was not ashamed to admit the mistake, even when he was a prankster. His teachers found it hard to be angry with him, because of his shy smile and his willingness to apologize after the fact. When he completed his studies, members of the Nahal Brigade set up their kibbutz in Kibbutz Mishmar Ha’emek, but the group was unable to form and Asher turned to the IAF. He wanted to join his friends from the boarding school, who had already served in the Golani Brigade, and was indeed attached to them, but Asher had only been with them for two weeks, and he fell during his service on the 28th of Iyar 5744 (27.5.1984), and was buried at the military cemetery in Hadera. He died at the age of 18. He left behind his parents and four sisters.
