Chen (Haim) Oded
Son of David and Miriam. He was born on the 11th of Kislev 5704 (11.12.1943) in Tiberias. He studied at the Erlich elementary school where he moved to Haifa and continued to study at the Leo Baeck elementary school and excelled in his studies. During that time he joined the Scouts movement and after completing his elementary studies, he studied at the Hebrew University’s vocational high school for refrigeration technicians. Was loved by all his friends and those close to him because of the worn-out daughter who did not leave his face, his kindness, his gentleness and his knowledge. Was an athlete who excelled mainly in long distances. In July 1961 he was drafted into the IDF and served in the Nahal Brigade until January 1964. The settlement in Notre Dame and the paratrooper Nahal Brigade were milestones For him to Kibbutz Magal, where he became a member. He loved nature and the sport and even participated every year in crossing the Sea of Galilee. Out of a strong desire to expand the horizons and develop and add knowledge entered the Hebrew Technion in Haifa and came to the third course in mechanical engineering. But he did not hang up his good relations with his friends in Magal, and every friend who came to Haifa found his way to his apartment and to Yael’s apartment (which he met in the nucleus and later married her) and was warmly received. He had the privilege of honoring father and mother, and as he was preoccupied with his studies and work, he would find time to visit them. He would travel a lot throughout the country, alone and with his wife Yael or with his friends, because he loved the country with all his Lev and soul. He also fought against leaving the country, when these thoughts were fermented at the Technion during the recession. During the Six-Day War it was in reserve duty, and on the second day of its battles, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (6.6.1967), while it was in an observation post on the monastery tower opposite the Damascus Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem, . He put down a wife. Was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In July 1967, at the time of the awarding of prizes to outstanding students at the Leo Baeck School, where he studied, a fifth grade student received an Oded Prize for his devoted activity on behalf of the student company. (This award is made permanent for every student who excels in social action). In the book “Marinas Gabro” of the Paratroopers Command were brought his history and the story of his last battle. The family and members of the Omer group published a booklet in his memory.
