Chazan, Ephraim


Son of Ruhama and Nahum, was born on 24.1.1959 in Or Akiva. At a young age Ephraim moved with his family to the village of Uriah. He attended elementary school in Moshav Tal-Shahar and at ORT school in Ramle. Ephraim loved sports, especially football, and played in the group of seats. During the summer, Ephraim taught at youth camps. Efraim helped with the farm work of the family, and was quick, diligent, always knew what to do and how to do it.In October 1976, Ephraim enlisted in the IDF. For three years Ephraim served in the Sinai, and for a short period served as a regimental policeman, and in April 1978 he rose to the rank of Corporal, and at the end of that year he rose to the rank of sergeant. After being discharged from regular army service, Ephraim began to work as a truck driver in an industrial factory. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, he was called to reserve duty three times. He volunteered for daring missions, though he was free of them, for health reasons. On the 10th of Sivan 5743 (10.6.1983) Ephraim volunteered and joined a morning tour, as a driver and as a machine gun officer. He toured an olive grove near the village of Deir Kannon in Lebanon. A terrorist ambush opened fire on the patrol soldiers, and Ephraim was hit and killed. He was 24 years old when he died. Defense Minister Moshe Arens wrote to his family: “He volunteered for a tour where he found his death, and was a courageous fighter and exemplary friend.” In his service, we met Ephraim, the devoted husband of his family. ” Ephraim was laid to rest at the cemetery in the village of Uriah. He left behind a wife, a 4-month-old boy, a mother, five brothers and two sisters
