Chatan, Eliyahu (Eli)


Born in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, in 1942, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. The family settled in Jerusalem. When he arrived in Israel, he began to study in the “Mizrachi” Talmud Torah from the lowest level and by the seventh grade he accepted the call of the homeland at the beginning of the War of Independence and joined the Jerusalem Brigade. Eliahu participated in the battles of Katamon, the San Simon monastery and more, and recently – at the conquest of the Miss Carrie outpost near Ein Kerem where he fell on the 4th of Tammuz 5708 (11.7.1948). Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) was transferred to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
