Charner, Yehuda (Rudy)

Charner, Yehuda (Rudy)

He was born in 1921 in Germany. In his youth, he was a member of the Habonim youth movement and during this movement he spent three years of training in a village in his native country. He later immigrated to Eretz Israel with Aliyat Hanoar, was sent with his friends to Kibbutz Tel Yosef and was one of the founders of the Kedma group. Among his friends he was known as an introverted and reclusive man, but accepted in society because of his devotion to work, his devotion to his position and his loyalty to his friends. In addition to his efforts to increase his education and acquire knowledge in various fields of agriculture, law, and the Hebrew language, he worked as a gardener and as a labor organizer. He later served as a guide in these courses and continued to maintain contact with the sea. In May 1945 he was called on behalf of Irgun for the special operation of the 23 Yordei Hasira, which was tasked with blowing up the oil refineries in Tripoli, Lebanon, on 21 Iyar, May 18, 1941. They did not return to their base. The reason for this and their place of burial is unknown to this day. His name was immortalized in the book “Secret Shield”. The Naval Officers School in Acre is named after the 23 Yordei Ha-Sira.
