Chaloni, Raymond


Son of Topek and Genia. He was born on the 11th of Kislev 5711 (November 20, 1950) in Aleppo, Syria. When he was eight, he immigrated to Israel with his family, who settled in a sea view near Herzliya. Raymond, who was a quick and active boy, completed his studies at the local elementary school and continued to study at the Amal vocational high school in Tel Aviv, where he specialized in mechanics. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement. Was a sports fan and especially played a lot in football. Raymond enlisted in the IDF in late February 1970. After successfully passing various courses and being transferred from unit to unit, he finally arrived in the Intelligence Corps where he began to contribute to the security of his homeland, and in the army he gained many friends and was loved by his friends and commanders. On August 9, 1972, he fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. His direct commander wrote in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “Raymond came to us in a state of restlessness, which stemmed from his concern for his parents and his family … We were doing his best to help him. Raymond, whose cheerfulness and joy of life has infected us all – – – We will remember him as a cheerful and lively young man, as a son looking after his family and as a soldier dedicated to his job. “
