Castro, Ofer

Son of Moshe and Eva. He was born on May 29, 1956 in Kibbutz Gvulot. He studied at the Weizman Elementary School in Kiryat Motzkin and continued at the Ort High School in Kiryat Bialik when he was 16. He studied at the Air Force Technical School, where he studied at the Ofer High School in electronics and leisure. He was a regular athlete at the Kiryat Motzkin youth center and worked as a metalworker and was a member of the “Hapoel” sports association. Ofer was a nature lover and traveled extensively around the country. He liked to travel with his friends in unfamiliar wadis and discover new, attractive spots. He spent a lot of time fishing and swimming in the sea. Another hobby he worked on for many hours was collecting stamps, and he did not abandon this hobby even during his military service. Ofer was a devoted son to his parents, loved his family and friends and helped everything. He liked to talk to his acquaintances for long hours, and when he met an unknown person, he made friends with him easily and knew him well in no time. He was optimistic in nature, and the laughter and joy accompanied him wherever he did. Ofer was drafted into the IDF in April 1974 and volunteered for the Israel Air Force after completing his basic training, and after completing his training course, he was assigned to an anti-aircraft unit. In the army, too, he became friendly with the soldiers of the unit and was loved by everyone. His friends from the unit told his parents that Ofer had a loyal friend always wanted to hear about their problems and tried to help as much as possible. When he was a student in the Air Force Technical School, Ofer committed to serve in the IDF for another year, as a soldier in the regular army, and was raised to the rank of sergeant On Thursday, 21 Tammuz 5737 (21.6.1977), Ofer fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Survived by his parents and brother. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Ofer was loved by his friends, who is diligent and devoted to his job.
