Caspin, Shmuel (Molik)


Shmuel, son of Malka and Moshe, was born on May 6, 1953 in Haifa. He studied at the Be’eri Elementary School and at the Urban High School in Neveh Sha’anan. He was a profound student with mature thought about social and state affairs. He was naturally a bit shy and withdrawn. He did not talk much and took part in classes mainly when they turned to him. According to his teacher, “Shmuel was one of those students, of whom only a small part of their personality was expressed within the school.” He was an outstanding musician and played guitar well in school, and mainly played pop music. His musician wrote: “A musician with the soul of an artist, a guitarist of supreme grace, who teaches, plays, learns music, pays for the best teachers, and takes every time of his army service. His future was clear to him: learning music, at the highest level and in the widest and most comprehensive way, concentrating on guitar. ” He was an extreme individualist, introverted, introverted, inclined to detach himself from society, loved to be alone, thought and thought. His friend wrote: “He has an almost anarchist social attitude. He has a strong inner belief in the fact that man is a very good creature on this basis, and after he studied the subject in depth, he created and formulated an extraordinary social vision.” At the same time, he was humorous and in the moments when he was in the mood, he was able to amuse and ridicule all his friends, who loved him and called him “Mulik”. He was tall and tall, broad-shouldered, bespectacled, with a thick beard and a large mustache. Shmuel was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1971 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, where he served in Shalach, served in the Nahal Brigade, served in the Mitzpeh Shalem outpost, completed an Armored Corps course and was sent to an armored brigade in the Golan Heights As a tank driver, he did not like military life and did not like the tank, but he fulfilled his role faithfully and devotedly, and after a difficult period of adapting to the feeling of seclusion in the tank he began to function properly. Before the outbreak of the war he was given the opportunity to leave the Armored Corps and return to the army, but despite his hatred of tanks and wars, he preferred not to abandon the road Shared with his friends. On Yom Kippur, on the 6th of Tishrei 5740 (October 6, 1973), Shmuel participated with his unit in a battle that took place at the Jokhader junction in the Golan Heights. His tank was ambushed by Syrians and a direct hit and Shmuel was killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. His commander wrote: “He proved his great ability and his courage in the face of the enemy.” His friends from the core group and the Ironi Gimel high school published pamphlets in his memory, including friends’ comments about his character. He made a hard cover for himself, wrapped himself in a roughness.
