Caro, Yehuda


Son of Yonah (Hamama) and Yechiel, was born on the 22nd of Elul, September 1, 1926 in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, and was educated there in the traditional way. Letters from Israel nurtured him from his childhood to yearn to be redeemed from the exile of Yemen and to live a free Jewish life in Palestine. In 1943 he left his widowed mother, his brothers and sisters, and immigrated to Israel. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he enlisted in the army and in his lettersto the family, he only incidentally hinted at the daily dangers. In the battle of Operation “Yoav” of the breakthrough to the Negev, Yehuda fell near Crete on the 15th of Tishrai, October 18, 1948. On the 12th of Tevet, 21.12.1950, he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
