Capun, Eliyahu (Eli)
Ben Leah and Shmuel, was born on August 20, 1959, in Tel Aviv. In May 1977, he enlisted in the IDF and served in the Armored Corps, and after completing a course for tank drivers, Eli became a tank driver, and in April 1978 he rose to the rank of Corporal. A year later, he rose to the rank of sergeant. On the 27th of Tishrei 5779 (27.9.1979), while driving on the Wadi Milek road, Eli drove two female soldiers in the car, both on duty and on duty, . In front of him, an excavator appeared on the road, swerving to the left, toward it. Eli tried to divert his car, but it was not enough. The excavator hit him, and the accident killed me and the two female soldiers who were with him. He was 20 years old when he died. Eli was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. He left behind his parents and sister. The commander of his unit wrote to his family: “Eliahu was a dedicated and loyal soldier. He fulfilled his role with dedication and efficiency and served as a model and example for his friends.”
