Hazan, Zvi
Was born on the 9th of Adar, February 19, 1929 in White Russia and immigrated to Israel in 1935. Zvi was active in the Scouts movement and in Gadna, reached the rank of platoon commander and served in training positions with light weapons. When the War of Independence began, he was asked to remain in training positions, but he asked to be transferred to a combat unit and was accepted by Hesh. Zvi served in the “Mechmas” and “Moriah” battalions of the Etzioni Brigade in Jerusalem, accompanied by convoys to Talpiot and Makor Haim and participated in many battles and activities with courage and devotion, including the bombing of the mill in Beit Safafa. After the evacuation of Neve Yaakov (16.5.1948) he returned and wanted to move to the Palmach, but was forced to cancel because of the need to undergo treatment in his leg. When he recovered, he returned to service. On the way to Jerusalem he was hit by a shell at the Pepperman House near Ma’aleh Hahamisha on the 6th of Tamuz, July 13, 1948. He was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
