Cantor, Shraga


Son of Jonah and Israel, was born on the 2nd of Shvat 5668 (2.2.1928) in the town of Dolten in the Carpathian Mountains, Poland, and received a traditional education. In 1935, when he was seven years old, he immigrated with his parents to Israel, and the family settled in the village of Kadima in the northern Sharon. Here he collected studies at work (after graduating from the local elementary school he studied for two years in Tel Mond) and assisted his parents in their small farm. From an early age he joined the Haganah, practiced and traveled extensively. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he worked in the local guard units of the Alexandroni Brigade, where he served as a commander in charge of his subordinates, both in training and at the front, who fought against him despite being injured in the leg and despite the entreaties of his commanders, friends and family. On Wednesday, May 13, 1948, he was wounded by a bullet in his leg, but refused to accept the help of his friends, whom he sent to help the other wounded, and crawled with his last remaining strength towards the collection station, but died Probably from blood loss, was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Tel Mond.
