Caliph, Gideon (Gidi)
Son of Aliza and Menashe-Naji was born on October 17, 1956 in Jerusalem to a family with many children. Gideon studied at the Katznelson Elementary School and continued to study at the Seligsberg-Brandeis High School in the field of fine mechanics. In 1974 Gideon enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and was assigned to the Armored Corps, and after three years of service, he was discharged with the rank of sergeant, after which he worked for a short period in IMI, then took a bus driving course and began working at Egged as a driver and mechanic. Was acceptable to his colleagues at his place of work, and was elected chairman of the workers’ union at Egged in the Jerusalem area. Gidi liked to travel around the country and joined the Egged group of wanderers. After his death, the department was named after him. While working in the garage, Gideon continued to study in the evening, at the ORT school in the practical engineering course. His diploma as an engineer was given to the family about a month after his fall. While in regular service, Gideon knew Ilana, and in 1980 married her. At the beginning of 1983 their daughter Yaara was born. Nature blessed Gideon with many good things, and he, in his own way, knew how to convey these things to others as well. The house he had moved to just a few days before he went to reserve duty was cultivated and arranged with grace and love. At the end of 1983, Gideon was called up for active reserve duty in Lebanon. Gideon served in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and left behind his wife and daughter, parents, brothers and sisters
