Califa, Mordechai


Son of Masuda and ReuSon of was born on January 1, 1954, in Morocco. When he was 8 years old, his family immigrated to Israel and settled in Dimona. In his early years, Mordechai lived in the Dimona transit camp. He grew up in a religious home and received a religious education. Mordechai studied at the Appelman Religious High School in the framework of frameworks. In 1972 Mordechai joined the army and was assigned to serve in the Armored Corps. He was very proud to serve as a tank, and always said that the tank was the safest tool. “Mordecai was a great communicator, and therefore was stationed in a tank of the battalion’s deputy commander, who did not evade any position and volunteered for any mission, even if it was not required, because he was proud of his unit.” – in these words described by his commander. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Mordechai fought on the Sinai front. During the fighting his tank was hit, and the entire crew was wounded. Mordecai was the only one to get out unharmed. He was transferred to another unit, which fought in the Golan Heights, and with it participated in the battles that took place in the valley of tears. Even before Mordechai joined the army, his mother died, so Mordechai moved to live with his sister in Holon after he was released. He worked in all sorts of jobs, and during his free time he liked to read newspapers. Mordechai would read all the newspapers we had come to, and he would pay homage to the articles he had read. From childhood he had a tendency to photograph. He bought a camera and took a lot of pictures, especially his family. During his time with his sister, Mordechai used to travel to Dimona every week and visit his sick father. In 1982, the father died. In October 1983, Mordechai was called to active reserve duty in Lebanon for regular security. On November 4, 1983, while he was in the military administration building in Tire, a car bomb exploded inside the building and blew it up on its occupants. Mordechai was found dead among the ruins of the house and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Dimona. He left behind brothers and sisters
