Cabri, Shaul
Son of Hama and Amram. Shaul was born on February 13, 1929, in the town of Sala in Morocco, near Rabat, where he immigrated to Israel almost alone, on a difficult and dangerous journey that began in 1946 and ended when he arrived in Israel on a ship from France in November 1947 From the day he left his family in Morocco until the day of his death, he saw Zionism as a great task for every Jew to strive for her success. There are many chilling parts of the story of Shaul’s immigration to Israel to this day. Who characterized his contribution to the lofty goal he believed in: the establishment of a home and a source of pride for the Jews of the entire world. At his arrival in Israel Shaul was drafted into the Artillery Corps, He served in five wars, from the War of Independence to the Yom Kippur War, and served as commander of a camp in the Krayot region, with the rank of major sergeant. Shaul’s family and his comrades in the Artillery Corps know how to tell about one inconceivable heroic act that he did when he served in a mortar battalion in the south. In one of the shooting exercises, a damaged shell was fired from the barrel, which was fired at a lower intensity than usual, and instead of flying to its target, it threatened to explode very close to the battery soldiers deployed in the area. Shaul leaped up and without hesitation waited for the shell where he was supposed to land. He managed to repel the shell so that it would not fall on the fuse and would not explode. In the wake of that incident, one of his friends painted a caricature of him in Indian dress as he danced in the middle of a campfire of exploding shells. After his death from the army in 1975, Shaul began working as a manager of a cement factory, and after his death in an accident involving his wife and three children, Mimi decided to move from Kiryat Motzkin to Bat Yam, where he joined the Civil Guard. In August 1984, a serious illness was discovered in Shaul’s body: On the 28th of Cheshvan 5745 (November 23, 1984), he died, after he fought the disease with the heroism that characterized him throughout his life, and a few hours before he lost consciousness, Days before he returned to the Creator, Shaul whispered in his older brother’s ear: “All my life I have done everything out of love for my wife, for my children, and for my birthplace.” First Sergeant Shaul was a son He was buried in the cemetery in Holon, leaving behind a wife – Odette, two daughters – Aviva and Orly, Son of Ami, and three grandchildren
