Burger, Meir (Bundy)

Son of Ilana and Avraham, was born on April 4, 1928 in the city of Mendok, Hungary, to a traditional family that dealt in commerce. Meir graduated from high school in his hometown. During World War II, his parents and four children were sent to the Auschwitz death camp. The parents and two daughters were murdered there, while Meir and his sister survived. After the war, Meir moved to Germany and joined the training of Jewish youth who wanted to establish a kibbutz in Israel. They underwent military training by members of the Haganah who were sent from Israel for this purpose and in November 1947 immigrated to Eretz Israel. Upon his arrival he joined the army and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. On the 25th of Tammuz 5708 (25.7.1948) he fell in battle “Operation Policeman” to open the Tel Aviv-Haifa road in Ein-Razel near Haifa. Meir was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
