Bronstein, Shlomo
Son of Rivka and Yehuda, was born on February 26, 1915, in the city of Dombrany, in the region of Bessarabia, Romania. He was educated in the spirit of religion and tradition. After completing his studies he joined the Gordonia group and after two years of training he immigrated to Israel in 1935. He spent three years in Israel and then returned to his hometown to visit his parents. Because of the Second World War that broke out in the meantime, he could not return immediately to Eretz Israel and he was drafted into the Red Army. Twice he was wounded in the war and when it was over, when he was allowed to return home, he found no one in the family. All were exterminated by the Nazis. Alone and Azov contacted his group and immigrated to Israel again in 1947 as part of Aliyah Bet. He spent a whole year in a detention camp in Cyprus. When he was released from the camp and immigrated to Israel, he began to work in various jobs. After the declaration of independence, he joined the 7th Brigade, which was under construction, and left with his unit for Operation son of-Nun A, the first attack on the Legion in Latrun. He was absent from the battle on 15 May 1948. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
