Brodsky, Menachem (Mandela)
Menachem, the only son of Rosa and Zvi Brodsky, was born in 1924 in Tel Aviv. In 1944 he joined the Haganah. When the War of Independence broke out, he was one of the first volunteers in the “Arazim” company from Maccabi in Tel Aviv and then in the Givati Brigade. He was promoted to the rank of commander-in-chief. In the third attack on the Iraq-Suiden police, he commanded a platoon. With half of the platoon he advanced to the fence and ordered the sappers to run the bunglor. Suddenly he stopped talking because he had been hit by a bullet in his forehead and died before he could utter the command “Blow!” Menachem died on 12 Iyar, 21.5.1948, and was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
