Brandzel, Dov (Barak)


Dov (Barak), son of Yaffa and Zvi, was born on March 14, 1943 in Russia and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1956. He began studying in his hometown and completed his studies at Kibbutz Maagan-Michael. After basic training he took a driving course and was sent to serve in the IAF squadron. He was a dedicated and disciplined soldier, efficient at work, and his commanders and Ehud accepted his comrades in the unit. At the beginning of August 1964, Dov was released from regular service and assigned to a reserve unit of the Armored Corps. In this unit he was called for periods of reserve duty, and in one of them he was trained as a half-track driver, and after his discharge from the regular army service he settled in Hatzor Haglilit. During the Yom Kippur War, Dov was called to serve and participated in the battles of containment and infiltration against the Syrians in the Golan Heights. In a battle that took place on the 11th of Tishrei 5734 (October 7, 1973), Dov was killed. He was brought to rest in the cemetery in Rosh Pinna. Survived by a wife, daughter and son, mother, brother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Sgt. Dov served as a half-track driver in the Armored Corps, and his dedication, courage and devotion to the mission are noteworthy.”
