Brand, Zechariah


Son of Adina and Mordechai was born in Tel Aviv on December 3, 1929, and when he was two years old, he moved with his parents to Netaim, where he completed his studies at the local school. He was a member of Hanoar Haoved, and was aware of the problems of the movement and its demands, while at the same time he was in the ranks of the Gadna and was devoted to training with all his might. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was in the ranks of the Palmach, and after a while, before volunteering, he volunteered to accompany convoys, and from his early days in the Haganah dreamed of joining the Palmach. After his participation in Operation Danny he was sent to the course of squadrons and participated in the battles of Ramle-Lod, Beit Jiz, and the brigade, the Yiftah Brigade, to the besieged Negev. In order to prevent the Egyptian forces from taking control of the area and to ensure the operation of the aircraft landing site near Ruhama, which was used to transport vital supplies to the Negev. He fell on the first day of Tishrei, 5709 (October 4, 1948), at the site of Khirbet Mahaz. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Mishmar Hanegev.
