Botnero, Gavriel (Gabi)


Gavriel, son of Etty and Lazar Botnero, was born in Romania, in 1968. His family immigrated to Israel in 1974. After a short stay at the Or Akiva Absorption Center, Gabi grew up in Jerusalem and went to the Rene Cassin High School, where he was a good student, sharp and talented, energetic and sociable. After enlisting in the IDF, he was assigned to an engineering corps, but refused and demanded to be a Golani fighter, like his brother. After much insistence on his part, he was sent to the Givati ​​Brigade and served full time as a fighter and medic. Among other things, he served for a long time in Lebanon. Gabi completed regular service with the rank of sergeant. At the end of his regular service, Gabi went to study general medicine in Hungary. Gabi specialized in general surgery at Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, where he also taught students and was very successful in this position, as evidenced by the evaluation certificates he received from his students and fellow lecturers. After his internship, he worked as an expert physician at Carmel Hospital in Haifa. After several years of working as a doctor in a hospital, Dr. Gabi Butnero joined the Israel Police. He fell in the line of duty on the 22st of Av 5763 (28.7.2013); he felt unwell and died of cardiac arrest. Gabi was forty-five when he fell. He was laid to rest in the Raanana military cemetery. He left two daughters, a mother and a brother. “
