Son of Tova and Joseph, was born on the 28th of March 1919 in Jerusalem, the fifth generation born to Jerusalem. He received a traditional education and was a member of the Bnei Akiva movement in Ramat Gan, where his family moved. After graduating from the “Hamizrachi” elementary school in Nachlat Ganim, he went to study at the Pitman Commercial School in Tel Aviv and discovered outstanding talents in mathematics and languages. Afterward, he was hired as a clerk in the Eretz Israel Britain bank, and in the evenings, after working there, he continued to study at the British Institute and in the Arabic language. With the UN General Assembly resolution on the partition of the country on November 29, 1947, he decided to join the ranks of the defenders before he was 17 years old, and every evening he would go to the Hagana headquarters to ask whether it was his turn to report to the religious company that was about to regroup. He served in the Alexandroni Brigade, participated in battles in Tel Litvinsky, Arab Kfar Saba, Rantiya, Sakia, Hiriya, Tantura, Kakoun, Tira, Kula, Jaba, Iraq Al-Manshiyya and Faluja. He wanted to participate in the defense of his hometown, and he also took care of his relatives and acquaintances who remained in the city and urged his parents to send them packages when he learned that his company’s participation in the battle of Biro “For the sake of conquering Jerusalem, no price is too expensive.” During Operation Horev, a “liquidation” operation was carried out aimed at destroying the “Faluja pocket,” in which an Egyptian brigade was besieged.
