Boim, Abraham

Son of Moshe. Born in the city of Radom, Poland, in 1922, he studied in an elementary school in his city and later studied tailoring, and as a youngster he joined the Dror youth movement and was remembered as a true idealist, a sympathetic fellow, loved by his friends. Everything in his Lev was the love of the Land of Israel: Avraham arrived in Israel in May 1948, alone and without any relatives, and shortly thereafter joined the IDF and took part in the battles of Latrun. In one of the battles he was wounded and hospitalized. When he recovered from his injury he continued to live in the soldier’s home in Haifa because he had no home. At that time, he turned to his friend from the movement, Eliahu Barashpat, who was in Kibbutz Yagur at the time, and asked him to be his guardian. On the 19th of Kislev 5769 (21.12.1948), Avraham of Dom-Lev died during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. On Tu B’Shvat that year a tree was planted in his memory in the forest of the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael.
