Blumenthal, Meir


Son of Jacob and Miriam. He was born on April 11, 1952, in Petah Tikva. He studied at the Hashomer Elementary School in Bnei Brak. Afterward, he studied at the Max Payne Professional School in Tel Aviv and completed his studies at the Amal vocational school in Petah Tikva, where he devoted his time and began his steps He was one of the first eleven of the Hapoel Petah Tikva youth team, and later moved to the soccer team of the Dan region, and with him went on a tour abroad. He was chosen unanimously to be the captain of the national team and at the end of the year Meir went to play for the Hapoel Petah Tikva youth team in the national league. November 1970 and was assigned to the Air Force. After basic training and after completing a course in driving a heavy vehicle, he was placed at the IAF base in the center of the country as a driver. Upon completion of compulsory service he continued to serve in the standing army with the rank of sergeant. Meir participated in the Yom Kippur War and fought on the Sinai front and later on the Golan Heights. According to his commander, “He was dedicated, honest and loyal, gave a personal example to the soldiers in the unit, kept the army’s assets and was resourceful and entrepreneurial and quiet and easy to work.” During his service in the army, Meir was invited to play for the Central Command team and won the Chief of Staff’s Cup, and his sister wrote about him: “Sports was his entire life and filled most of his world. He began his life on the sports field, spent most of his life there and even finished his life there. “On May 21, 1974, Meir died during his service. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Your son was a model soldier, and despite his modest and quiet manner, he made a significant contribution to the work and social life of the base.”
