Blum, Yaakov-Moshe Shmuel-Benjamin

Son of Barbara and Alex, was born on 25.7.1969 in Ramat Gan. Moshe joined the IDF in September 1987 and served in the Israel Air Force as a communications technician and then as an officer. Moshe was a member of the Israel Defense Forces and was an outstanding soldier who loved the army and his friends and commanders who loved him. He was a vegan vegetarian and cooked for himself while serving, and Moshe enjoyed the idea that he was eating healthy food, exercising, and doing everything to keep his health in mind. On April 3, 1990, Moshe was wounded in an IAF operation, although he was one of the officers in the course of the installation of the newly acquired system, the antenna collapsed and its head hit Moshe’s head and spine and he remained paralyzed in his body. After more than nine months of unconsciousness, he began to breathe on his own and to communicate with his eyes and then with his lips, and to improve his chances, his parents added the first two names of his great-grandfather, who received the third name of his great-grandfather Shmuel and the great-grandfather Benjamin. After his injury Moshe lived with his family in Givat Shmuel and later in Ramat Gan. He participated in a shooting class at Beit Halochem and at courses at Bar-Ilan University. He also listened to various courses at home, heard music and painted vigorously with his mouth. In May 2000, an exhibition of his paintings, Nofei Halev, was held at Beit Halochem in Tel Aviv. His mother tells him that he was sharp, kind and funny. Even after his injury he continued to be so and it was a pleasure to be with him. He was always able to appreciate the little things in life and enjoyed the drizzle of rain. In the years after his injury, he often rocked between life and death. The doctors said there was nothing to do but pray, and his parents prayed a lot. Against all medical opinions, Moshe overcame impossible situations and maintained the joy of life until his body systems collapsed. Moshe passed away on 24 Av, August 22, 2003, more than 13 years after his injury. He was thirty-four years old. He was survived by his parents and two brothers. Moshe was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
