Bloom, Amir
Amir, eldest son of Zehava and Michoel Bloom, was born in Dimona on December 27, 1971. Amir was educated at the Neveh Elementary School in his hometown, where he was a gifted and successful student, and when he finished elementary school, he decided to join the military boarding school in Haifa. He joined the IDF in November 9, 1989. He served as a combat soldier in the” Kfir “armored brigade (500). His leadership was expressed by personal example, in the love of the soldiers and in the care of their needs. They obeyed him out of respect and appreciation and not out of fear.
One morning he awoke with a sudden pain in his shoulder blades. When the nagging pain continued, he was examined and the worst was revealed; he had lung cancer and was diagnosed only at an advanced stage of the disease. The cancer metastasized to other organs. Lieutenant-Colonel Amir Blum fell in the line of duty on 24 March 2016. He was forty-four years old. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Modi’in cemetery. Amir was survived by his wife, two daughters and a son, parents and three brothers. On his gravestone his loved ones wrote: “Because deep down I know that I have lived a full life” (from his farewell remarks).
