Bloch, Oscar


Son of Paula and Rudolf. He was born on June 25, 1911 in Vienna, Austria. In September 1938 he immigrated to Eretz Israel, settled in Rechovot and worked in the orchards of the area. In late 1939 he joined the British army and was stationed in France. After the conquest of France by the Germans, Oskar arrived with his unit to England. In 1940 he married and shortly after his marriage was sent with his unit to Egypt. In 1941 he participated in battles in Greece and was captured. He managed to escape but in June 1941 he was captured again. Between 1941 and 1945, he was in a POW camp in Silesia together with prisoners of war from the Palestine unit. Toward the end of the war, in March-April 1945, the Germans marched their captives into Germany. In early May 1945, Oskar was liberated by the American army. Wounded and sick, he was transferred to a hospital in England and on the 1st of Sivan 5705 (13.5.1945), died and was brought to eternal rest in London, leaving behind a wife, mother, grandmother, and three brothers.
