Bloch, Dov-Yaakov
Son of Dvora and Shraga-Shlomo, was born on April 30, 1927 in the city of Memel, Lithuania. In 1934 his parents immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. Yaakov graduated from Herzliya High School, studied for a year at the University of Jerusalem and another year at the Technion in Haifa. He was at the beginning of his professional studies and was preparing to go abroad to study abroad, but because of the worsening situation in Israel he rejected the plan and enlisted in full military service, despite the fact that his health (he had a Lev disease from birth) was exempt from combat service. As a member of Hayash he enlisted the day after the UN General Assembly resolution. During a tour of Haifa, he was wounded and lay for about 2-3 months in a hospital. On the day of the liberation of Haifa he was still sick, but he was stationed at the headquarters, ready to be sent by reinforcements, if necessary. After he took part, he took part in Operation son of-Ami to liberate the Western Galilee and from there went to the Jordan Valley. Dov-Ya’akov survived the battles of Tzemach and Shaar Hagolan, but on May 30, 1948, he perished in a new weapons experiment in Afikim, where he was buried. On the 27th of Av 5710 (27.7.1950) he was transferred to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
