Blass, David
David, son of Farcha and Nathan, from Iraq, was born on the 21st of Iyar 5705 (13.5.1955) in Holon. He studied at the Chabad school in Holon for seven years, and since he was a sensitive boy and his more religious friends teased him, he decided to leave school and move to another school, and he did not stay there for long because he preferred to help his carpenter father with a living In spite of his hard work, David found time to engage in his hobbies – sports of all kinds – he specialized in karate, had a black belt in Judo, and practiced boxing and weight lifting as a member of the Technical Club for Youth. With his father, David was accepted to the youth movement at Kibbutz Givat Brenner where he spent his most Yaffa years He stood in the kibbutz and worked in his carpentry workshop, and he created furniture and fine tools, and David stood out among his classmates with his sensitivity to beauty, landscape and nature. His guide stated: “David has the soul of an artist.” David did not take care of the work hours and invested most of his head in it, but he did not sever his ties with the house and would come to visit his family at any time, David was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1973 and volunteered for the Nahal Brigade. Who was ordained as a korabai and completed a course, was added to the Yehiam nucleus and served in the Jordan Valley. David passed through the Yom Kippur War unharmed and the war was awarded to him as the rest of the fighters.
