Bitton, Gabriel (Gabi)
Ben Aliza and Jacob. Born on July 25, 1955 in Casablanca, Morocco, Gaby was the third child born to his parents, and immigrated to Israel in 1962 and settled in the Giora neighborhood of Hod Hasharon. He was a member of Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed and an active member of the youth club in his neighborhood, and when he finished elementary school, Gabi served as a young instructor in the club, Gabi joined the IDF in August 1974. He trained in basic training And went on to serve in the regiment of the brigade. However, due to a skin disease that affected him, his medical profile was removed and he was forced to stop serving as a combat soldier and he was assigned to the maintenance corps, where he completed a parachuting course and took an active part in the evacuation He completed his regular service in August 1977, but continued to serve in the career army for another five years as maintenance master sergeant. His commanders admired him as a very good soldier, disciplined, honest and loyal. Gabi did his job with great professionalism, and showed initiative at work and a desire to progress. After five years in the career army, Gabi decided to return to civilian life. He acquired a civilian profession in a bus driver’s course and worked as a driver in a bus company. From this company he moved to Dan and worked there for two years. His ambition was to work for Egged. He was later accepted to Egged and worked there as an employee. Gabi married Ruthie from Sdeh Hamed and they had a son and a daughter – Aviad and Lilach. On the 29th of Kislev, 5729 (29.11.1989), Gabi was killed in the army cemetery in Kfar Sava, where he was survived by a wife, son and daughter, parents, five brothers – Uri, Albert, Isaac, Daniel and Moshe, and three sisters – Hannah, Miriam and Esther – in his memory, the family volunteered a Torah library for the Ohel Moshe Synagogue in Hod Hasharon.
