Biton, Shalom
Son of Masoud and to the right. Born in 1945 in Morocco, his family immigrated to Israel in 1950. He studied at the Nir Etzion regional elementary school and was lively with a great sense of humor, yet somewhat shy. He excelled in dedication to all those around him, especially his parents and family. In the medical corps in which he served as a combat medic, he assumed a responsible position. After his discharge from regular service he was occasionally called into service, but from now on he served as a machine gunner. “When he recently went to serve in our unit, he would go out with his friends overnight to secure the Lebanese border from murder squads,” he said. He was always friendly with his comrades, and he always acted with confidence, even when the patrol encountered terrorists on the last night of his life. ” On December 31, 1970, he fell in a clash with an enemy near Moshav Avivim in the Upper Galilee, using his weapon to cover his comrades, while exposing his body to the murderers’ bullet that hit him and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. It was published in the youth magazine “Ma’anit” in April 1971.
