Bitan, Gad (“Mas’ud”)

Gad, son of Chaim and Sylvia Bitan, was born in 1920 in Zerba, Tunisia. In 1946 he joined the first group to prepare to immigrate to Israel, learn Hebrew and in 1948 immigrated to Israel and settled in Moshav Nitzanei Oz. He served in the Israel Defense Forces and served as a lieutenant colonel, and during the Six-Day War he showed courage in the battle as he faced the heavy bombardments of the enemy, and fell in a mortar position in the same battle, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967). He left a wife and six children and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
