Binenstock, Aryeh (Leibl)
Son of Sarah and Mendel. He was born on May 3, 1914, in the town of Timaszow-Mazowieck in Poland, which was part of Czarist Russia in 1948. After World War I, his family emigrated to Germany, and he immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1930 and was sent to the Ben Shemen Youth Village. In 1934, when his younger brother immigrated to Israel as part of the “Ahava” children’s institution, Aryeh enlisted to help the institution, which was initially located in Neve Sha’anan in Haifa and then moved to Kiryat Bialik. On the day of the 27th of Av (1.8.1940), when the ship “Mount Zion” was on its way from Britain to the United States, it was hit by a German submarine and went down to the depths, along with 33 sailors, Some of them were Israelis and Aryeh was among them. An investigation conducted in 2017 found that the date of his death was August 1, 1940, on the 27th of Av. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
