Biger, Yitzhak
Yitzhak, son of Chaya-Sarah and David Biger, was born in 1917 in Zichron Ya’akov to an established family in Israel. As a child, his parents moved to the Daughter of Galim neighborhood and were among its first settlers. Yitzhak was a goalkeeper in hockey, a member of the national team in water polo, and in 1937 he became a goalkeeper for competitions in Egypt, Lebanon, Greece and again in Egypt. In the year of his death he was scheduled to enter the competition at the London Olympics. He was always cheerful, kind and lively, and was surrounded by a circle of friends and fans. Although Haifa was cut off from the Gulf by the Arab ambush in Wadi Rushmiya, Yitzhak used to bring supplies from Haifa to the Gulf every day. On the 20th day of Adar I (March 1, 1948), while carrying out his duties as a driver, he was killed by bullets in his abdomen when he was driving in Wadi Rushmiyeh. Yitzhak was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
