Bichardt, Abraham
Avraham, son of Chana and Pinchas, Bichardt, was born on the 30th of Nissan, April 22, 1917 in Frankfurt, Germany to a religious and observant family. He had a high school education. On his way to Israel, he spent some time in Italy and arrived in Palestine in 1937. Upon his arrival he immediately joined the ranks of the Haganah, joining the Beerot Yitzhak group. He was one of the pillars of the group. Among the people of the Negev he earned a reputation as an experienced farmer and researcher. He had a great love for music. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was appointed to be in charge of the sector. Avraham filled his position with strength and security. Abraham died on the 8th of Tammuz 5708 (July 15, 1948) in a face-to-face battle with the Egyptians. He was buried in Beerot Yitzhak, leaving a wife and two daughters. Four months after his death his third child was born on the 20th of Cheshvan 5710 (31.10.1950) He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
