Bert, Eliezer

Son of Shmuel and Rosa. He was born on May 8, 1955, in Romania, as a bearded son, a brother of four sons and a daughter. In February 1959, Eliezer, then four years old, immigrated to Israel and was sent to Zrifin. About a year later she moved to Kiryat Tivon. Eliezer studied for eight years in the local elementary school. Due to the economic situation at home, he was prevented from continuing his studies, and he was forced to seek employment and livelihood, while still at a young age. Most of his work was in the framing profession, but he did not withdraw any of the other works that had come into his hands, provided that he could assist in his family’s agriculture. In August 1973, about two months before the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, Eliezer was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces, where he made a series of basic training and a course for drivers, and the armored corps needed additional drivers. In the meantime, he was promoted to Corporal. He fulfilled his duties in the army with full responsibility and hoped that he could advance on the military track and rise to the rank of officer. But all his hopes and dreams were shattered – he fell in the Sinai, in the course of his duties, on the 27th of Cheshvan 5735 (November 6, 1974). Was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Kiryat Tivon. Survived by his parents, four brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Your son, the late Corporal Eliezer Burt, fell while serving in the Sinai.” Eliezer served in the unit for about a year, standing with all the soldiers in the unit in difficult trials and efforts. “In this effort, Eliezer stood out in his willingness to cooperate fully with his commanders and friends, performed everything that was imposed on him and served as a model for his comrades.” The parents donated a Torah scroll to commemorate his memory; The book was brought to the local synagogue in an impressive ceremony attended by the Minister of the Interior and other dignitaries. In addition, a soccer tournament is held every year in memory of Eliezer, who was an avid enthusiast and active in this field. The competition is organized by the Youth Department of the Kiryat Tivon Municipality.
