Bernstein, Shmuel (“Shmulik”)

Son of Sonia and Zvi. He was born on April 11, 1906 in Zytomyr, Ukraine in Russia. When he was 15 years old, he left Russia, stole the border to Poland, and six months later, at the end of 1921, he arrived in Palestine. On the morning of the 12th of Tevet 5739 (3.1.1939), the captain of the installation, poured water from Eros to the factory. Shmuel and other workers went to the site to find out the cause of the mishap. An Arab gang of about 50-60 people ambushed them and opened fire on them. Shmuel was hit and killed. His corpse was picked up by reinforcements who came to take revenge later, went into battle with the gang and tried to get them. Shmuel was laid to rest with Michael Blum, the factory engineer who was killed together with him in the Nahalat Yitzhak cemetery. He left a wife and son, a brother and a sister who immigrated to Israel after him and parents in Russia.
