Berliner, Yisrael-Yehoshua


Son of Rivka-Feiga and Moshe-Yosef (descendant of a family of rabbis and rebbes), was born on March 26, 1912, in the city of Jindzhiow, Poland. He studied in various cheders and yeshivas and at the “Metivta” in Warsaw and was known for his diligence in Torah and Chasidut according to the Gur style. In 1934 Yisrael-Yehoshua immigrated to Israel and was one of the founders of “Poalei Agudath Israel” in Eretz Israel and a veteran of the Tel Aviv branch. He prayed in the house of the Gur Hassidim. On 7 Tammuz 5708, he left his home for service in the “Kiryati” Brigade, equipped with a prayer shawl, tefillin and holy books and even a kiddush cup he took with him. He died the following day, on the 7th of Tamuz, July 14, 1948. Yisrael-Yehoshua was laid to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
