Berlin, Menachem
Menachem, son of Tzipora and Nachum (from the family of the Netziv of Volozhin) Berlin, was born on June 11, 1928, in Poland. In the year of his birth his family immigrated to Israel on a “Sinai” ship and settled in Jerusalem. His father was one of the builders of the Mekor Chaim neighborhood. Menahem studied at the Hamizrachi School in Jerusalem but since his youth he was interested in electricity, his parents responded to his request to let him move to Tel Aviv and study in high school and study in the evenings by evening classes at the Montefiore School. Menachem found work in an engineer’s office, specialized in his work and was sent to various repairs all over the country. He invented various inventions in his profession and prepared to go to the United States for further training. When he enlisted in the Givati Brigade, he was appointed chief electrician in his battalion, which was located in Be’er Tuvia, and installed light and film in the camp. On 12 Nissan 5748 (21.4.1948) he fell in battle to conquer Beit Daras and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Beer Tuvia.
