Berkovits, Menachem-Eliezer (Alexander)


Son of Sarah-Zivia and Yeshayahu, was born on December 10, 1919 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, where he had a higher education. Menachem-Eliezer immigrated to Israel in 1940 and studied physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. During World War II, the university ran a crystal production laboratory for Allied armies. He took his hand and was therefore not taken to combat duty. Throughout the years he continued his studies and practical work until the days of the War of Independence, and Malio joined the defenders of besieged Jerusalem. One day he came to his shift, replaced a friend in a post in Sanhedria, and a shrapnel hit his leg. The wound caused blood poisoning, and on 13 May 1948 he died of his wounds and was buried in Sheikh Bader A. On the 16th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
