Berkovits, Meir-Shevach


Meir-Shevach, son of Sarah-Zivia and Yeshayahu Berkovits, was born on 19.10.1922 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. He graduated from an elementary school in his city. Served in the Hungarian army. The family immigrated to Israel in 1946. After the War of Independence he enlisted in the IDF, reached the rank of Second Lieutenant, and then expressed his readiness to join the permanent army, serving as a quartermaster officer of the Southern Command headquarters. Meir was wounded in the course of his duty and died on December 5, 1949. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl In Jerusalem.
