Ben Sarit and Yonah was born on 28.6.1973 in Ramat Hasharon and joined his sister Ayelet, who was almost four years old. Ziv studied at the Golan Elementary School in Ramat Hasharon, in the “Alumim” junior high school and at the Alon high school, where he completed his matriculation in Physics, although he began his high school studies in music, thanks to his love of classical guitar. Already in his youth, Ziv was involved in social and educational issues, which was expressed as an apprentice and later as a counselor in the youth movement. These characteristics became stronger and more pronounced in his decision to volunteer for paratroopers and throughout his army service, including his appointment as an officer. His letter to Prof. Amnon Rubinstein, then Minister of Education, written as the commander of a 21-year-old youth team, attests to the sense of public commitment and the desire to change and influence the way of life in the country. In his letter, Ziv raised his worldview on the ethical level and outlined his ideas for improving the functioning of secular education in comparison with religious education, while detailing proposals for fostering values in the secular education system. In November 1991, Ziv enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces in the Paratroopers Brigade, and in the first eighteen years of his life, he unconsciously trained himself for his four and a half years in the army – basic training, advanced training, sergeant training, Ziv in Falak, two service periods in Lebanon, and finally commanding a track company in the Paratroops. Before the age of 23, he was already a role model for his combat subordinates and a friend of his fellow commanders. According to his commanders and soldiers, despite his youth, Ziv was a special commander, an extraordinary combination of devotion, military professionalism, humanity, modesty, and above all, an education commander who did not recognize the term ‘small head’. All he did was his unshakable belief that “I and you will change the world,” in response to those who chose to sit on the fence. (Quote from his letters). Ziv, who was the youngest company commander in the paratroopers when he received the job, saw his future career in education: He was one of the “cream children of Ramat Hasharon,” for whom, like his good friends and friends, Zionism was still a value, not an insult. Was not a good example of the experience at the Beit Lid junction, when he was entirely devoted to the rescue operations of his injured soldiers, and did not bother to inform his family about his condition for four hours, because, as he put it, “I did not think But the parents of my soldiers who fell and were injured, “said Lt. Col. Amir, battalion commander of the battalion where Ziv served:” I remember the calls ‘Z’ E. and’ldhof ahead of Ziv morning assembly, which calls Ziv words’ to strengthen the pride and belonging to the soldiers, the long runs this morning who initiated and carried out together with the soldiers of his company and the tremendous commitment and investment in each moment of time. Commitment and investment characterized Ziv in everything he went and did. This investment was carried out on an internal impulse, based on a personal example, which was a symbol in all that he acted. Ziv shared his many doubts, loved to hear, to consult and to learn from the experience of others, but in the end he always insisted on his own, his way and his personal and special style, which stood out in his direct and sometimes embarrassing wishes. “Shortly after his appointment as a company commander, Ziv spoke of his role:” I enjoy the role, from the people around me, from my soldiers, but I do not enjoy it. I’m sure I want to be a leader. ” The mind responded to these wordsBrigadier General Benny: “Throughout his life, Ziv has been careful not to exceed the threshold of power.” Ziv began his service in the paratroopers in 1991 in a track company and fell five years later, on the 14th of Iyar 5756 (3.5.1996), in the course of his duties, After completing a group exercise throughout the night. After his fall he was promoted to captain. Ziv was buried in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery. Survived by his parents – Sarit and Yonah and a sister – Ayelet. His papers, found after his death, read: “I am not in our world to protect my life, but to protect the soul of others.” So he lived in recent years and so he was taken too soon! A poem written by Ziv in memory of his deputy commander, Lieutenant Udi Algrabli, who was killed in Lebanon on July 6, 1994, was composed and recorded on a CD dedicated to Ziv and Udi. That I have sinned against you with a light mind, that I have observed but have not understood the blanks / that I have sinned against You in trouble / that you needed me but I would not have helped you / that I have sinned against you unknowingly / that you are among the dead and not me, “This is the essence of Ziv’s soul, as evidenced by other sentences he wrote down in a small notebook that accompanied or During his service, such as: “Human generosity, the most exalted, lies in atonement for the sake of others;” “A new world: a world of grace that you do and receive; A world of sacrifice, mercy and tolerance; The possibility of a tear in the eyes of the law. “Other sections in his notes show his role as commander, as an educator:” Every soldier should be treated as a wise and wise person; One must be careful not to harm the soldier’s self-respect. It should not be treated with tyranny, arrogance or arrogance; Teach, explain, practice, train, educate, care, relate, strengthen, unite, encourage, punish, mold, professionalize, feel – push forward! “His family published a booklet that combines poems written in his memory by his father and photographs of sculpture works created by his mother Which was erected at the entrance to Kibbutz Beit Zera in the Jordan Valley, and his friends and cherished Ziv’s memory planted a grove in the “Forest of Defenders” JNF near the Nachshon junction, on the way to Jerusalem. His sister Ayelet, a film director, produced a television drama dedicated to his memory, based on the story of the terrorist attack in Beit Lid. Another documentary film, “A Different Scourge,” directed by his sister Ayelet, together with four families of young paratroopers from the Paratroopers Brigade who fell during their service in 1995-1997 (the families of Uri Azulay, Yoel Dilian and Nadav Milo), documents the process of coping with families, Ziv, with the loss of the boys. “There are people whose memory is shining when they themselves are no longer among us, and these lights shining in the darkness of the night are what show the man the way” – Hannah Szenes.
