Berg, Abraham


Son of Tzippora and Zvi-Ya’akov, was born on April 23, 1922, in the city of Drzeszka, Hungary. He graduated from elementary school and at an early age became independent and even helped to support his family. During his free time, he studied “sitting”. In 1942 he was taken to forced labor in a camp under the Hungarian army command, and two years later, when the Germans entered Hungary, he was sent to a concentration camp. On the way he joined a few other friends (and his younger brother) and together they managed to join the Freedom Fighters. For four months he fought in the Austrian forests. After being liberated by the Americans, he returned to Hungary to search for his family, and when he did not find them there he decided to immigrate to Israel. When he arrived in 1946, he met with his two brothers, and the three of them lived for a while in Pardes Hannah. Avraham worked as a foreman in the orchard. During the War of Independence, he fought in the Yiftach Brigade and participated in several battles (one of the Netziv, the Enzeev, Malkia, and Nabi Yosha) in one of the battles. During the first truce, the brigade participated in the “Danny” operation and on July 17-18, 1948, towards the beginning of the second truce, the “Haemek” battalion seized Shilat and an outpost in the eastern part of the ridge Coricor in order to threaten the wing of the legion in Latrun, and in the morning it became clear that the Legion force was in control of the western part of the ridge. And was forced to withdraw from the area, on the 11th of Adar 5708 (18.2.1948) on the 11th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948). 1950) was transferred to eternal rest in a grave in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
