Benyamini, Yosef

Son of Benjamin. He was born in 1911 in the Caucasus, as a son of a family from Iran, who immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1922 and worked in various occupations. With the outbreak of the bloody riots of 1936-1939, he joined the “HaPoel” companies in Tel Aviv and from there volunteered for the first course of the train station in Afikim. Joseph lived in Jerusalem but worked as a guard at various points in Israel. He carried out his task to the satisfaction of his superiors and was promoted to Lance Corporal (Private First). On the 26th of Sivan 5639 (June 2, 1939), Yosef went out with the guards, Kurt Hommberg and Israel Shulman, accompanied by four British soldiers, to inspect the railway tracks. Near Jaljuliya, near the orchards, a machine gun was fired from the ambush and all seven passengers were killed. Their weapons were robbed by the attackers. Joseph was laid to rest on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. He left behind a pregnant wife and elderly parents with whom he supported and siblings. The newspaper Davar published a list in his memory
