Ben-Zvi, Yaakov
Yaakov Son of-Zvi was born in 1922 in Poland and in the middle of World War II he immigrated to Eretz Israel, in 1941. Yaakov joined the British army and was assigned to the 462 Company of the Transport Corps, serving in Egypt and Beirut. He was sent with his men on board the ship “Aryanpura” from Egypt to Malta in order to participate in the invasion of Europe. On May 27, 1943, a German reconnaissance plane circled over the convoy and bombed the ships, and Yaakov’s ship was hit by a direct hit and he drowned.
