Ben-Ze’ev, Zohar


Zohar, son of Nechama and Gideon, was born on October 3, 1953 in London, England, during the period when his parents were there on behalf of the Foreign Ministry. He came to Israel in 1955 and studied in schools in Israel and abroad, and graduated from the Israeli high school in Paris, where he was a diligent and thirsty student, who was intellectually interested in many fields and studied in various courses and courses. He was an optimistic, cheerful, good-hearted, active, sociable and conscientious man who was always ready to help others. He completed a computer programming course and worked as a security guard for El Al planes at the airport in Brussels. While his parents were on a mission to Belgium, he worked at the Israeli consulate in Brussels. Zohar was drafted into the IDF in early May 1972 and volunteered for the Armored Corps after graduating from basic training in the Tank Corps, where he was assigned to the Armored Corps. He was an excellent soldier and a devoted friend, and according to his commander, he fulfilled his duties faithfully and devotedly, showing excellent fighting ability and professional ability. For his service in various operations he was awarded the operational service signal. In the Yom Kippur War, Zohar participated in the battle against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. On October 8, 1973, he fought with his unit in battles for the Hamutal stronghold, east of Ismailiya, in the central sector of Sinai. In one of the battles his tank was hit and he was killed. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to sergeant.
