Ben Zachary, Doron
Ben Aliza and Moshe. Doron was born on June 5, 1972 in Nahariya. He was the youngest son, brother to Dina and Ofer, loved by all the family. He studied at the comprehensive high school in Nahariya, finishing in the mechanics track. Doron was tall, handsome with a charming smile, a sturdy, solid guy. He was a great person, he loved sports and especially diving and running. He loved his friends, loved to answer any request for help, and was admired by everyone. Doron was drafted into the IDF in November 1990, served for about a year in the Golani reconnaissance unit and later moved to the Golani Brigade. He was stationed in Lebanon until the end of his service. At the end of 1993, immediately after his release, Doron enlisted in the Border Police’s Counter-Terrorism Unit (YMAM), and in his early days at the YMCA Doron was outstanding in his good qualities, with the motivation to contribute and with extraordinary combat and courage. Doron was a warrior who winked at the raw material reserved for Israel’s heroes. Was the pride of the family. In the middle of 1995, Doron was critically wounded in an operation in the Hebron area to assassinate Taher Kapisha, commander of the Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades. Kapisha was wanted for his involvement in the murder of six Israelis, among them Rabbi Amiram Olami, and the wounding of others. When the Shin Bet located its hiding place, the SWAT fighters were assigned the task of destroying it. On November 23, 1995, Doron was awarded the Medal of Honor for his courage in the operation in which he was wounded. After the injury, the doctors predicted for Doron hours, then days. But Doron against all odds held three and a half years bravely. Only a fearless warrior could draw three and a half years with such constant heroism, with such reverent stubbornness, standing valiantly in his heavy war against the death that lay ahead. For three and a half years in the corridors of the hospitals, Doron proved that he belongs to the best breed. First Sergeant Doron died on the 25th of Tevet 5759 (December 25, 1998.) He was buried at the cemetery in Nahariya, leaving his parents, brother and sister.
